I love a good detox and this is probably the easiest form of detoxification you can do: start the day with warm water and freshly squeezed lemon juice. I swear by this.
Before breakfast, simply add the juice of half a lemon to a mug of warm water. After drinking, try to wait about 30 minutes before eating breakfast.
There are a couple of reasons why drinking warm lemon water is so good for your skin:
1. It cleanses your body. I believe that clear skin starts from the inside – I just don’t see how you can achieve perfect skin if you have loads of toxins roaming around in there, just below the surface. Lemon juice increases the liver’s detoxifying enzymes and helps flush out unwanted build up in the digestive tract. And it stimulates the production of bile (a digestive acid) in the liver, which aids digestion. Lemon juice also purges toxins from the blood through the kidneys. It is a natural diuretic, so it helps the kidneys to eliminate toxins more quickly. All this makes the removal of waste products from the body more efficient, i.e. DETOX!
2. Lemon juice is full of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant essential for beautiful skin. It helps to prevent blemishes and slows down damage caused by free-radicals, which degrade the skin’s collagen and cause fine lines and wrinkles.
Drinking warm lemon water daily really makes difference to my skin, but there are lots of other benefits to drinking warm lemon water in the morning. These include boosting your immune system, balancing the pH levels in your body, speeding up your metabolism and naturally energising you. Definitely worth a try! xx
