A few months ago, I was looking for a treatment product that would help to get rid of stubborn spots. I don’t tend to break out all over my face, but I do get the odd angry spot, and the longer it stays the more likely I am to “tamper” with it. I was looking for a product that would calm this type of spot ASAP.
Although I don’t use a lot of Dermalogica anymore, I’ve always got on with their products, so when I came across their overnight treatment, I thought I’d give it a go. The product is designed to reduce congestion, fight breakouts and lessen redness overnight. It contains salicylic acid, which I find really effective for clearing my pores and reducing congestion. It also has cucumber and licorice to sooth the skin and reduce redness, and tea tree, lavender and camellia which control oil production.
I apply a generous blob at night straight after cleansing with nothing over the top. A little goes a long way – the consistency is like a gel or serum and it is quite sticky, but I find it absorbs quickly and easily. It also smells to me like tea tree oil (which I like).
I’ve had this by my bed for about six months now, and I’ve been using it on and off as needed: i.e. whenever when I’ve got spots coming to the surface or I’m feeling particularly congested. And I’m really liking the results. It either calms down those under-the-skin spots, so that they never actually appear, or brings them to the surface quickly, so that they disappear within a couple of days. The treatment also helps with congestion around my cheeks – I use it in combination with a clay mask to clear blocked pores. It hasn’t solved the problem completely, but it has been the most effective product I’ve tried.
I don’t use this treatment every night though, because I find that it can be quite drying if I use it for too many nights in a row. I don’t have dry skin, but I like to keep my skin really moisturised, to keep it looking its best and to reduce trauma from breakouts. I alternate this product with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (reviewed here), which I find super nourishing and hydrating.
Overall though, I’m a fan of this product. It gets rid of blemishes quick enough that I can resist prodding them and helps to fight congestion. Definitely recommended. And it’s not too pricey at £13 a tube from Look Fantastic.
